The weather is cooling down, the leaves are changing colors, kids are back in school and all things pumpkin dominate our lives. So now that fall is finally here, here are a few ideas for weekend activities that the whole family can enjoy.
Leaf-Peeping
It sounds funny, but this is an easy, low-cost activity that allows you to get out and see the beauty of fall. Cruising backroads with your pumpkin spice latte in the cupholder, jamming out to your favorite music with your windows down, and rocking that flannel shirt you just pulled out of the closet is a great way to appreciate the new season. And if you have little ones in the car, turn it into a fall-themed “I spy, with my little eye” game.
Apple Picking
Unlike what we see in every store we enter, fall is more than just pumpkin. Apples are a staple to great fall activities and even better recipes. Find a local orchard in your area and head out for some apple picking. Then bring them home and transform them into great fall dishes for the whole family to enjoy.
Go on a Hayride
If you live in an area with some local farms and ranches, then you can’t pass up the chance to visit a corn maze and jump on a hayride. Gather up the family or a group of friends and make a full day of it. In the category of “Agritainment”, these local farmers put on some great events that might include a hayride followed by a campfire with hot chocolate or even some more interesting libations.
Have a Bonfire
When the weather finally cools down and the evenings start getting a bit nippy, pile up your firewood and have a bonfire! Invite your friends and family over for some beverages and s’mores as you relax under blankets around the fire. There is nothing better than the smell of a fire.
Curl Up with a Good Book
If staying in is more your jam then curling up with a good book might be the peaceful respite you need right now. Pick up a new book and curl up in front of the fireplace. There are very few things that beat comfy clothes, a warm blanket, a hot cup of tea, and a great book. And if you want to get the kids in on it, turn this into a family book night. Take the kids to the local library to check out a new favorite and open up their world to the love of reading. Fall kicks off the season for friends and family to come together. So grab your favorite people and get outdoors while the weather is gorgeous. Throw on that shacket, pull out those chunky knit blankets and make the most of everything fall!
