Christmas Eve Traditions that Build Family Memories

Everything has been focused on Christmas morning with the children and bringing families together to share in a perfectly curated meal. But what about Christmas Eve? Yes, you may attend a midnight mass or have a cocktail with friends, but here are some suggestions on how to make this just as magical as the big day.

Everything has been focused on Christmas morning with the children and bringing families together to share in a perfectly curated meal. But what about Christmas Eve? Yes, you may attend a midnight mass or have a cocktail with friends, but here are some suggestions on how to make this just as magical as the big day.

Christmas Eve tradition ideas
Find the best activities to create lasting memories with your family. We’ve come up with four suggestions for Christmas Eve for the whole family.

Open a Gift

By the time Christmas Eve rolls around, we’ve been staring at those perfectly wrapped gifts for weeks and the anticipation is just too much to bear for even one more day. Opening a gift on Christmas Eve is a popular tradition in the United States (while a number of other countries open ALL of their gifts on this night!). The perfect first gift is pajamas! It is a simple way to end the evening and prepare the kids for bedtime.

Christmas Light Tour with a Twist

Christmas Eve is the perfect time to drive around and gaze at the spectacular displays within your own community, but we suggest doing it with a little twist. Grab your cocoa and some fresh baked cookies and create a scavenger hunt. Make a list of items that the whole family can look out for to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Here are a few ideas to get your list started:

  • Flashing lights
  • Light-up snowman
  • Star Wars inflatable
  • Snoopy
  • Synchronized music and lights
  • Santa inflatable on the roof
Let the kids join in the fun by helping to create a list of their own.

Watch a Christmas Movie
Choose one movie as a family that you can enjoy together and do it every year. There are so many classics that everyone loves but pick one that means something to your family. A Christmas Story, Elf, The Grinch, or even Die Hard. Yes, we said it.

All-day Pajama Day with Games, Treats, and Crafts

Go all in and enjoy a day inside with the family. Put on those pajamas and pull out the board games and puzzles. Settle in with some homemade treats or even do a crafting activity together. This is one of our favorites.

The holiday season is about family. Get creative and choose something that allows all of you to enjoy the season by making memories for years to come. And maybe the kids will pass them down to their families when they are older.

At JackJack Comfort, we wish you and your family the happiest of holiday seasons. Don’t forget to enjoy it comfortably!
